I purchased the Linksys PSUS4 due to my network is full of modified Linksys WRT54GL and for all the bashing modifying and configuring they have served me well.

Any way the linksys PSUS4 wasn’t as strait forward as I first thought, it wasn’t till a few weeks ago that I got this printer to work to a satisfactory standard that I was happy with.

For Mac OS X this was a fairly straight forward process, as my Print server supported AppleTalk all I had to do was install the “CUPS” drivers and select the correct printer (in my case the “Canon IP3000 – CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.30”), after clicking the AppleTalk button under the add printer.

For Windows XP on the other hand..
The number of steps required increased,

1. Install you printer drivers and ensure the printer works locally
2. Click the Add Printer button.
3. Select the “Local Printer Connected to this computer” Make sure the Automatic detect option is deselected.
4. On the Next Screen Select “Create a new port” and from the drop down box select “Standard TCP/IP Port”
5. You can now enter the details of the print server, IP address and the any name you wish.
6. The next screen presents you with a Device type selection, I played around with a few but settled with “Network Print Server (1 Port)”
7. Choose you printer driver from the list
8. The rest of the stup is strait forward.
9. The one thing that I did after the setup was go to the properties of the printer and slect the “Ports” tab, and deselect the Enable bidirectional support. Most print servers do not support this feature, and confuses windows if it’s selected.
10. Another option I changed was in the “Advance Tab” In the middle there is a option to “Spool print documents so program finishes printing faster” select this and under it “Start printing after last page is spooled”. This seems to reduce the printing errors when transmitting across the network.

   In Win 8
   Go to control panel
   under Hardware click view devices and printers
   click add printer
   click on the printer I wat isnt listed
   select add local or network printer withmanual settings click next
   select choose a printer port
   &create a new printer port
   select type of port as standard TCP/IP port from the drop down
   next
   type a printer or host name
   198.162.1.12
   name 198.162.1.12_1
   next
   detecting TCP/IP port
   cutom setting
   print server type 2 port 1 usb
   choose print driver
   finish
